Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls - World 1 - Downtown (Perfect)
The first non-tutorial world is set in a smoggy urban environment. I remember the manuals stating how the towers are ancient structures, so either this is some weird technology advancement, the person in charge of writing the premise worked independently on those who made the artwork, or this is set far into the future. Whatever the case, you’ve seen this theme in Easy Street. Skyscrapers take up much of the backgrounds, and the platforms resemble asphalt roads with fire hydrants decorated throughout.
Since this is still World 1, things are pretty simple and straightforward, and the towers never really get too tall.
For this one, I’ve selected Amanda as my player character. She doesn't have any theme in particular, so I might as well put her here.
00:20 - Tower 1 - I’m Saying “Eleven!”
I’m not really sure what the reference in this tower’s name is, and I Googled it up and found nothing. Though as the first non-tutorial tower (not counting Baby Enchilada, which was really more of a review of what you had learned to that point), this one’s pretty short and simple. It introduces the goo platforms though, which are sticky and slow you down a lot.
02:13 - Tower 2 - Tube Ride
The name of this tower most likely refers to tubing, in which you ride an inflated inner tube down a river. This was a fairly popular and well-known pastime in the 1980s and 1990s, at least where there are safe rivers. Towards the end of each lap, I used a technique known in-game as flapping-I’ll explain that in more detail later, when it becomes a required technique and not just something to use to stay in the air for longer.
05:15 - Tower 3 - Nice Action!
You might have noticed by now, between this tower and the last one, that fans are a good way to skip some manual clmbing: just let the updraft send you upwards rapidly until you reach solid ground. The computer players do it, so you might as well!
08:17 - Tower 4 - Cooky Jar
I’m not sure why “Cookie” is spelled wrong for this tower’s name, but you’ll see at the beginning of this tower’s introduction that there are only 2 laps for this one. They tend to be reserved for the ones that take longer to complete a lap, though the final tower for each world, which always takes place in the ruins area, is always 1 very long lap.
10:31 - Tower 5 - Wobbler
Though it goes without saying in any racing game, it’s important to be at least passingly familiar with each racetrack. For this tower, the last segment is a series of long, irregularly shaped horizontal loops with one segment where you can grapple through. You want to know the optimal path through there, because you can bet the computer players in Hard difficulty will.
13:05 - Tower 6 - Super Happy Fun
I have my doubts about it, but I remember some people saying that this tower is named after the Super Happy Tree from Yoshi’s Story. That game had just come out the previous year, and people playing on the Nintendo 64 had it fresh in their minds. Here, I demonstrate, albeit unintentionally, that you can get hit by your own blue electric shot items. Very nice if you hit someone with it. Not so nice if you hit yourself.
15:37 - Tower 7 - The Ring’s the Thing
Crucial to me winning this race was sheer aggression against the computer players. And hey, why not? They’re very aggressive to me, so I might as well fight them. There’s relatively little infighting among them, so you might as well hold nothing back when they come around. Make them miss those moving platforms.
18:46 - Tower 8 - Clang Clang! (Armored)
For the record, every standard world has one “Armored” tower. This means that 75% or more of the tower is made of armored ground, which can’t be grappled through. Any non-grappling means of movement will work though, like bouncing on another racer’s head or dipping into the acid below (not that it’s practical in this specific tower). In hindsight, I’m not sure why this signifier exists. It’s not like your strategy is any different knowing that.
20:58 - Tower 9 - Maze of Torment
Though I like the design of this tower, the spiraling climb up feeling like something suitable for the last tower with the Downtown theme, there’s nothing maze-like about this.
23:19 - Final - Orbital
And finally, the tower set in the ruins, which, if it concludes a world, is only 1 lap. But as you can see, this lap is as long as a whole race in some other towers.

In 1998, hoping to ride the coattails of Mario Kart 64, every company wanted to make a family-friendly racing game where racers pelt things at each other and engage in cartoon violence. Even Iguana Entertainment, a company best known at the time for gritty first-person shooters and violent hack-and-slash games, wanted in on it. Iguana, with distribution from Acclaim, came up with this highly un...

The last new Challenge of June 2024 is “Super Jump-a-thon,” which is themed around one of the most overlooked of sub weapons, but one of my favorites: the Squid Beakon. Double Cross is a little-known game I have on the Switch. Initially, I got it because it's a platformer from the same people as Runbow, but eventually, I found an unintended use for it: as a MicroSD card test. You see, Double Cross will not run on certain types of MicroSD cards, and the ones that it won't run on are MicroSD cards that are likely to eventually fail. However, if it DOES run on a ...

    Tower 1- It looks like you got an item from the star-shaped object that allowed you to lay down bombs to slow down other racers. Tower 2- The electric ball at the 2:38 mark caused both you and your opponent to spin out. Tower 3- The CPU players were doing better here than in the previous towers. One of them caught you at the 6:25 and the 6:50 marks! Tower 4- The pink racer nearly beat you. =O Tower 5- The racer in last place froze everyone in front of them at the 12:15 mark. It reminds me of the Lightning in the Mario Kart series. Tower 6- Gooey platforms? Icy platforms? Boost panels? This tower has all three! Tower 7- Looks like you have to attack your opponents in the giant moving platform section. Otherwise, you'll be left behind. Tower 8- You got hit by a bomb, bounced off of your opponent, and jumped right through a metal platform at the 19:05 mark. And you clipped through a metal platform after getting hit by an electric spark at the 20:16 mark. Must be a glitch, but hey. It's useful for advancing through the level. Tower 9- It's not a maze, but you can roll right off of various parts of the track if you aren't careful. Final Tower- The parts where you had to grapple through multiple narrow platforms to reach the top look tough, especially when you're dealing with other racers who can throw you around.

      Indeed, the projectiles you saw at 2:38, the blue ones, CAN hit the character who shot them. Between that and how they just travel along a path until they fall off or enough time passes, I consider them useless to catch up to someone. Not only was I attacked twice by grappling in Tower 3 ("Nice Action!"), but Skully also dropped a bomb directly in front of me. And yeah, Q-Tee almost beat me. This is a taste of how brutal the computer players can be on Hard difficulty. What you saw at 12:15 was the Freeze item, which encases all opponents in balls of ice. This makes their movement slipper and hinders their grappling upwards. You can use a boost to break free of the ice, but you won't get a speed increase. There is a closer analogue to Lightning, which is Shrink. You may notice my character suddenly getting smaller and slower sometimes. This is that item at work. You'll see me use one at about 19:58. What you saw at 20:16 is not a glitch. Armored platforms can't be grappled onto, but any other sort of upwards movement can let you pass through them. That includes getting bounced into the air from an item attack. Orbital is tougher than the towers that came before it, but we're only about one-fifth through the game at this point. (Including Easy Street, 20 towers out of 100 in the game.) Naturally, it gets much tougher after this.

    Predictably, the tower themes speed up in the last lap, which is another reason Iggy's Reckin' Balls 99 would be a doozy of a platforming racer royale. The dragonflies would eject people who finish below the Safe Rank. I have not played Iggy's Reckin' Balls, yet I am already liking it because of how much of an interesting platforming racer it is. One idea for Iggy's Reckin' Balls 99 would be to have a battle royale world that has 10 towers in it, and each tower would have a higher Safe Rank than the last tower. Once all the safe racers make it through a tower, dragonflies come in on that tower to remove the racers who finished below the Safe Rank. It is why people call me the Great 99-Ifier for coming up with battle royale versions of other games.

      For the record, Iggy’s might not work in multiplayer quite that well. Some towers have pretty distinct advantages where you even start, and the nature of some towers cause insurmountable leads after a short time.

    Iggy's Reckin' Balls is an interestingly awesome game, which is why I am glad it appears on the Nintendo Switch Online Virtual Console. To celebrate the fact that Iggy's Reckin' Balls made it to Nintendo Switch Online, we could come up with Iggy's Reckin' Balls 99, a battle royale version. Extreme-G also made it to Nintendo Switch Online, so I celebrated that occurrence by purchasing an authentic copy of the first Extreme-G at the Mile High Flea Market in Colorado. I am also coming up with a battle royale revamp called Extreme-G Royale: XG99, or Extreme-G 99 for short. The longer title, Extreme-G Royale: XG99, is inspired by how the second Extreme-G is called Extreme G: XG2. By adding Iggy's Reckin' Balls and the first Extreme-G to Nintendo Switch Online, the service put respect on obscure racing games and their names. The fact that Iggy's Reckin' Balls and Extreme-G are racing games means battle royale versions will move the Safe Zone to higher positions after each lap. Iggy's Reckin' Balls 99 would be awesome, and so would Extreme-G Royale: XG99.

    I've heard of this game long ago, but I only knew about its title. I never realized until now that it was a platform racing game, not unlike that old Platform Racing flash game that I used to play online on a web browser. I see that this game has what seems to be the equivalent of a rocket start with how the player (Overhazard) kept on purposefully falling through the floor at the start of many laps in order for them to be damage boosted several floors above as a quick shortcut technique that no doubt speedrunners would've likewise done. Alas, I also see a lack of items that are commonly found in Mario Kart (or the previously-mentioned Platform Racing flash game) had in order to make races all the more interesting and dynamic. Imagine if all of the players (especially the leader) would have to be on the lookout for the equivalents of banana peels, red shells, or blue shells as they tried to race towards the goal.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard День тому

      There are most definitely items in this game, and I will attack and be attacked countless times through this playthrough of this game. “Item boxes” are yellow stars in bubbles, some of which are stationary and some of which bounce around. Items include homing projectiles, non-homing projectiles, a projectile that seeks the lead character, one that encases all opponents in ice, one that shrinks all opponents, one that grants invisibility, bombs dropped onto the stage, etc. There aren’t very many in Easy Street, as they’re tutorial towers and are just mainly there to get you introduced to how the game works. Absent items, racers are free to attack each other when they get close enough that they can grapple them. Grappling opponents can stun them, throw them off the course, or slam them through the floor so they fall down to the next bit of solid ground (or make Evan rescue them, if there is no solid ground close below).

    -Hmm, I've never heard of this game before. The concept is also strange as well. I guess Iggy and his friends race on various tracks and towers, then destroy the tracks they raced on, with the racer that finished last in the tracks getting blown up in the process, just like in "Mario Party 1" where the player that finished last gets humiliated in various ways. -4:52- So you can use the grapple to throw other racers off? I see. -7:27- The dragonfly pulled you up back onto the track really quickly, unlike the Lakitus in the Mario Kart series. -The super jumps at the beginning of each of the laps in "Movin' On Up!", "Ride the Roller!", "Tricky Grapplin'", and "Baby Enchilada" gave you a huge boost. I wonder if it is highly recommended for the player to do the super jumps in later worlds?

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard День тому

      It’s a concept I haven’t seen before or since. The closest I know of is Uniracers, on the Super Nintendo; Iggy may have been inspired by that game. You can freely attack other racers, but all attacks can be counterattacked if you press the grapple button at the right time. Generally, you want to focus on advancing forward, but there are times when it’s optimal to attack, like when you’re both on a slow moving platform and you attack someone else on there at its apex so they have to wait for it to come back up again. That technique where I drop down and jump up, I believe, is known as the “acid drop” among the fans. (The recreational drug reference is intentional.) The AI gets very good and very aggressive later on but rarely uses this technique, so it becomes important in some later towers to get ahead and stay ahead.

    This game makes me think of a Mario Kart platforming sort of type, or the Ninji Speedruns in Super Mario Maker 2. "VICTORY FOR THE BIG KA-HOO." Man, the audio of that quote sounded horrible. No, it's not because that I don't like the voice actor, it sounded like it was recorded from a very, poorly audio quality camera that was published on UA-cam in 2006 to 2010. Grapple Up | A beginning stage. Obvious, since it's the first level in the game. Mind the Gap! | There's a gap you can fall in, and that's it. Easy as well. Loop da Loop | YAY. ONLY THREE LOOP-DE-LOOPS IN THIS ONE. Jump@end | I have no clue what the @ symbol means in this title. Jump Up, Up, Up... | I like how the dragonfly reminds me of the Lakitu in Mario Kart games. Like I said, this game makes me think of a Mario Kart platforming type. Follow the Path | The arrows instruct the player to follow the path. That's all I can think of.. Movin' on Up! | I didn't expect the platform to go up at the 7:25 mark. Ride the Roller | I like the cake background on this one. Tricky Grabblin | Apparently, we're now on a beach/desert theme in this one. Baby Enchilada | ONLY ONE LAP IN THIS ONE? I'm also curious on how you did the "YOW!" move at the 11:06 mark.

      Pretty much every voice clip from this era had that low quality to it, especially if it was on the Nintendo 64. They had to keep file sizes way down, and to do so, the audio would be compressed. This game, in particular, is less than 4 megabytes in size. Acclaim ordered the lowest capacity Nintendo 64 cartridges available, which hold 4 megabytes, as they were the cheapest ones. The @ sign is to make it look like an email address. In every set, the final tower is one lap. They tend to be the longest, most convoluted towers of their sets though. What you saw regarding “YOW!” is a drop into the acid at the bottom of every tower. To drop down a platform, hold down and press the jump button. Your character will drop through the ground. If they touch the acid below, they will leap up in pain, passing through all platforms. There are some towers where this is a faster means of going up than traveling normally. You will see me do this with many towers later on. P.S. Iggy says “Victory for the Big Kahuna!” when he wins. He talks like a surfer.

    It looks like you want to use the Beakons as much as possible to get onto certain parts of the stage quicker, and to destroy Beakons to prevent enemy players from doing so. Match 1- Once your team started to make a push towards the 1st checkpoint, your team was able to march their way to victory. Match 2- I didn't expect two team wipeouts to be so close to each other (8:03, 8:22). Match 3- Aw, your team almost made a comeback like they did in match 1. Match 4, 5- That was a dominating performance by your team.

    We need more fun sliders in games. Everyone only focuses on difficulty sliders but this game clearly is ahead of the curve! (If all of those actually change anything that'd be neat but I have to assume these are just joke settings)

    I played this game when it first came and replayed it not too long ago. It's a fun but short game that has MegaMan like influence along with Metroid with the grappler swing. I don't remember too much of the other modes besides no items and speedrun. Was hoping for a sequel because I really like the artstyle and world I

    Match 1- Your teammates were getting splatted left and right at the beginning of the match. However, you were able to stay alive and take the Splat Zone back. From that point on, your team was able to rally to prevent a comeback and win the match. Match 2- Wow, that was quite a battle. Match 3- So that's what it's like to have the ability to throw three Splat Bombs in a row...without the use of specials, of course. Match 4- The Tentatek Splattershot and the Octoshot seem to be the most used weapons in this challenge. I guess it's because of its kit and how balanced the main weapon's stats are.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard 3 дні тому

      It's also that the Tentatek Splattershot and Octoshot Replica are very easy to use weapos with some of the lowest learning curves in the game. They don't have nay glaring weaknesses that even the Splattershot Jr. has, so they can adapt to any situation. So if someone doesn't have much experience with any of the weapons with Splat Bomb, they're more likely to use the Tentatek Splattershot, or Octoshot Replica if they've completed Side Order, due to their beginner-friendliness.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard 4 дні тому

      Speed control is what this team is about, and I like that it went by almost perfectly. I also didn’t notice about the music; when I review my footage, I watch it at triple speed to make sure nothing winds up in the video that shouldn’t, so all audio becomes a jumbled mess.

    -Araquanid using Entrainment to pass its Water Bubble ability to Kyogre to boost its water-type moves is a clever move. It makes Kyogre more powerful and a potential sweeper in a double battle. -Once your Hisuian Braviary and Spidops did their job, it was up to your Poliwrath and your Toxtricity to pick up the slack. And they did exactly just that! Once they KO'd Araquanid and Kyogre, your Poliwrath took advantage of the rain by using its water-type move to KO one of your opponent's Pokemon, while Toxtricity used its Technician-boosted Electro Web to take out your opponent's other Pokemon that terrastalized itself to water-type.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard 4 дні тому

      Yeah, this is everything all coming together as I had intended when I assembled my team. The setup from the first two Pokémon generate an advantage, then they move out of the way for the rest of them to finish the job.

  • @Megabest02
    @Megabest02 5 днів тому

    Great battle and great chance, I'm not sure that Electro Web can beat Urshifu if he took his Fighting Type.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard 5 днів тому

      Of course, they chose the Water Tera type because it increases the power of their Water attacks. They committed themselves to that, and it’s what they had to work with.

    Once again, my little bean Raichu putting in the work. I'm a little disheartened by it not lasting long this time though.... Even though ironically it's what gave you the win thanks to Swift Swim Poliwrath using the Drizzle to its advantage. I know Entrainment Araquanid has become a viable strategy in Raids, so it's interesting to see it be used in a Double like that. And ofc once again Kyogre showing off how dangerous it can be on a Rain Team w/Origin Pulse and Water Spout.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard 5 днів тому

      Araquanid with Entrainment has become more popular in Regulation G because of this very strategy. Kyogre with Water Bubble is terrifying and can one hit KO nearly anything not immune to Water attacks.

  • @justinjyeung
    @justinjyeung 5 днів тому

  • @ClefairyRox

    It was clear from Team Preview that your opponent was running a Rain team, but the strategy of Araquanid giving Kyogre Water Bubble via Entrainment was really interesting and, had you not taken Kyogre out quickly, would have proved devastating. Water Bubble having the hidden effect of doubling the power of Water-type moves drastically increases the pressure Kyogre can exert even without Water Spout. I was impressed that Spidops survived a rain boosted STAB Origin Pulse. And its Sticky Web ensured your victory.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard 5 днів тому

      I had never seen this strategy before, with Water Bubble onto Kyogre. I did see Araquanid had been getting more popular and many had Entrainment, but I had never actually seen that put into action until this battle. (I know about the hidden trait of Water Bubble, and I know that with that, Kyogre can one-hit KO even Pokémon who resist Water and have high Sp. Defense like this.) This was a battle where my team did everything they were made to do. It all came together near perfectly.

    -I'm surprised that Poliwrath survived a Guts-boosted Close Combat from Hariyama. -The turn where Amoonguss used Protect to protect itself from Flareon and Spidops's attacks was the moment when the tables began to turn. And from that moment on, your opponent played you like a fiddle.

    • @Overhazard
      @Overhazard 5 днів тому

      Yeah, that was a boneheaded move from me. With using Protect, they got intel on what I wanted to do, so I should've done something different because that was what I had expected to do. I already knew they were willing to switch their Pokémon out. Had I targeted Sylveon, Kingambit would have been caught in that Flare Blitz, even if Flareon would've fallen asleep from Spore, and I would've been able to change my strategy knowing Amoonguss had changed to Tera Water.
